What do you use the tarot for?
People use tarot cards for a variety purposes. For example, in Europe they are commonly used to play trick-taking card games. Tarot cards can be used to see what the future holds, but I don’t think this is the best use for the cards, as I do not believe that the future is set in stone. You can use the tarot to see what happened in the past that is affecting your present. You can see what is happening now that you should be aware of. And you can, it is true, see what the probably future holds…but the future is always being remade with every moment that passes. Within those moments, you can make decisions that will change the future. And this is, in my opinion, the best time to use the tarot…to help make the best decisions possible to move toward a future you desire.
If the Death card turns up in a reading, does it mean someone will die?
Possibly, although that has never been the case in my experience. More commonly, it indicates a time of transformation, a very big and signifi-cant change in your life.

How is a tarot deck different from a regular playing card deck?
Think of a playing card deck, with the Ace – 10 but with the court cards being: King, Queen, Knight, Page instead of King, Queen, Jack. The suits in a tarot deck are usually: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. These cards together are called The Minor Arcana and there are 56 total. The word “arcane” means secrets, so these are considered minor secrets. In terms of doing a tarot reading, these cards represent everyday events.
Another section of the deck included 22 cards called The Major Arcana. They are numbered 0 -21 and also have names like: The Magician, The Empress, Wheel of Fortune, The Moon, and The Lovers. These are the major secrets. In a reading, these cards represent major events or milestones in your life.
